A service will be held on Sunday, July 30, for former Holmesburg Civic Association president Rich Frizell, who died earlier this month.

The service will take place at 1 p.m. at Westfield Friends Meeting, 2201 Riverton Road in Cinnaminson, New Jersey.

Frizell, 60, died on July 18. He is survived by his wife, Lorna, and 9-year-old son Noah.

Before moving to Holmesburg, he renovated properties in Northern Liberties and opened the Lionfish Cafe. He also worked as national sales manager for Mechanical Specialties Inc., at Tulip and Rhawn streets in Holmesburg.

In 2012, he became president of the Holmesburg Civic Association, replacing Fred Moore, who had moved to Huntingdon Valley.

As president, Frizell helped bring the “Welcome to Holmesburg” painted sign to the train trestle at Frankford and Solly avenues. He fought the opening of a methadone clinic at Frankford Avenue and Decatur Street. And once NorthEast Treatment Centers won a court battle to open a methadone clinic on State Road, he helped craft a “Good Neighbor” agreement.

In 2015, Frizell stepped down as president to battle throat cancer. ••
